Comic Book Movies Take The World By Storm
From Ink to Film
Comic books have always graced us with their lore on the television screen as well as the silver screen. It was not until recently that this franchise began to gain some momentum to become the juggernaut that they are today. Now, all kinds of super hero movies are coming out of the woodworks. It all started in the 1940′s, when comic books became popular in America. The first comic book to break into the film industry was the Adventures of Captain Marvel, which back then was more popular than the man of steel. Today, film after film is produced from many popular comic books like X-Men and Spider-Man. Even The less known, but still great comic books are finding their way onto the silver screen such as 300, which grossed over $200 million worldwide. This is fast becoming the silver age for super heroes on the big screen.
With Great Power Comes Great Money
There is a reason why super hero movies are taking over the big screen. It is not just because of the interesting story, visually appealing effects, and simple character archetypes. It is because these stories are fast becoming a gold mine. Matt McAllister, a professor at Pennsylvania State’s media studies stated that in 1989 the Batman movie made $250 million from the film alone. The Batman name continued to make $750 million from other products such as toys and even theme park rides. That is because people love the classic story of good vs. evil that these movies offer. They are also dazzled by the marvelous effects these heroes wield. People love to imagine what it would be like to wield such power and these movies take them into a cinematic adventure, where they can all experience that power. With all the power Hollywood wields, let’s just hope they continue to hold their responsibility to make great movies.
The Sacrifice Of These Great Heroes
Not all super heroes survive the transformation from ink to film. Some heroes become so twisted and deformed that the comic book fans could hardly recognize them. This makes the fans feel betrayed as they watch their favorite hero, who they lovingly supported become a twisted version of what they once loved. A prime example of this is the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. Many fans cried out foul on this movie, not because of the actors. Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine did a wonderful job. It would be hard to imagine a different wolverine after his performances. However, the true villain was behind the camera. The writing, directing, editing made the plot and character seem so ill-conceived. They even changed some character’s powers such as Emma Frost. She was a fan favorite because of her powerful psychic powers, but in the movies she transformed into a diamond version of Colossus. The floors of many theaters were flooded with the tears of fans when this occurred. This is a prime example of what can happen when you make a comic book movie without its true essence.
The True Heroes Reveal Themselves
Although there have been some disappointments, there have been even more successes. When movies stick true to the essence of the comic books, great things occur. Movies like “The Watchmen” is the best example of those movies. It stuck so closely to the comics it felt like they used the comics as the script itself, although they did change a few things here and there to be relevant to the audience’s taste for the current time. This was done in great taste. Its true essence shined through the big screen. Movies like these are the crusaders for diehard fans as they honor them as well as appeal to the masses. Hopefully, we can look forward to film adaptations of comic books such as these with great pride.

Celebrity Perfumes: The Desire To Smell And Be Like A Celebrity
The Scent of Popularity
A lot of celebrities now have jumped into the bandwagon of launching their own perfume line, and these fragrances have become all the rage. These days most celebrities are wearing perfumes labeled with their names. These are names that they had already made for themselves. Elizabeth Taylor was the pioneer in this area. She introduced White Diamonds in 1991 that hit $67.2 million dollars in sales. Manufacturers have brought this idea to launch celebrity perfumes to make their product unique and facilitate branding that earns the respect of consumers. This is where a celebrity lends her name to a company to take advantage of their fame as well as to gain a new approach to self-promotion and much-needed exposure. Companies have continued to create ideas for marketing strategies that make the name a defining factor that would make people want to buy the perfume, because they trust the products their favorite celebrity has endorsed. Perfumes landed by a celebrity always sell like hot cakes. Some celebrity fragrances are fairly common, but they don’t come in cheap prices, because people want to identify it with class more than with content. Celebrities don’t usually get involved in the making of their own perfume lines, but they take time in picking up the scents that carry their seal of approval; thus depicting their personality and charisma to reach out to their fans in the form of fragrances. It is a massive trend to give their fans a reflection of themselves. Critics may say that it’s a way to generate sales even further. There are also some that donate profits from their perfume lines to philanthropic activities and to the charities they support.
Celebrities Don’t Define You
It is always enticing to buy perfumes endorsed by our favorite stars. It is important to consider if the fragrance smells good on you, however glitzy its marketing and aura. People have that desire to smell and be like a movie star, but fragrances can be highly personal and may not suit everyone because people have different body chemistries. It is up to you as the consumer to experiment and decide what fragrance best suits you. After all, if you find a cheaper perfume that smells like heaven, people will think it is top quality item. That alone is worth the time and effort in finding the right fragrance.

The Comic Convention Is For Cool Kids And Nerds Alike
Comic Con Can’t Be Contained
Over the years Comic Con has grown from a nerdy convention to a must-attend event for all. This popularity can be mainly attributed to the success of film adaptations of comic books. People all over the world are falling in love with super-powered humans in spandex all over again. Even Hollywood is spreading their love and vision of our favorite heroes by bringing in top celebrities to announce their new projects based on comic books to all the fans in Comic Con. This gathering has grown so large it would give the most hardened geek a ‘nerdgasm’. The Pulse of Las Vegas wrote an article about how San Diego can no longer contain the goliath that is Comic Con and how it is best suited to be a Las Vegas event. They even stated that the three top waterfront hotels in San Diego will combine their spaces to help host the event in order for it to stay in the city it was born in.
The Fans Are At Arms-Length
Once the ticket registration opens for Comic Con, the chaos immediately begins. Every year the fans try to get their hands on the tickets the first time it gets available, there is always a crash. So many fans try to acquire their tickets that the website can’t handle the massive traffic it encounters. When they first enabled registration this year on November 1st, it crashed moments later. It was then reopened a few weeks later and it was the same story all over again. Only a lucky few were able to get tickets, before the system crashed and burned. As of now, the ticket system is unavailable. Although the fans are furious, they will still leap at the chance to acquire a ticket no matter how it’s made available. Epic Registration is the company, which handles the ticket affairs and they are hard at work, tending to this problem. How they will deal with such a massive force of fans has still yet to be seen. All that is known is that Comic Con has grown up to be such a success that even its creators are having a hard time controlling it. All we can do is pray that they can hold on to the reins and put this bronco in control.

The Existence Of Music In The History Of Man
Entertainment That Existed For Ages
Generally, people have their own taste in music. It may vary depending on social context, age, and culture. In prehistoric times, they use bones, stones, leaves and wood to create their music. From most isolated tribal groups to royalties, music was their form of entertainment. It is an ancestral constituent of human life. The evolution of musical forms was passed on from generation to generation and people became even more fascinated by each radical change. Music is the expression of thoughts of the composers and the emotion of the singer. Singers and musicians were prominent figures even in ancient times.
Beginning Of A Huge Musical Innovation
In the beginning of the 20th century people, modernization came at hand, media technologies were developed, and people started to listen to music over the radio through FM stations. However, that didn’t stop there, people continued to innovate, striving to devise new sound possibilities. From the regular acoustic guitar, people invented the electric guitar, which amplifies a wider range of sound. People started to explore further into more genres. The sequencer came to create an arrangement in the variety of audio effects necessary for a particular musical composition. Music technology has brought a revolution in the development of music.
A Library In Your Pocket
Today, hard-core music fans no longer bring bulky radios to play songs, or keep piles of cassette tapes and CDs in shelves. Portable music devices made it possible to store a whole collection of music in your pocket. In the computer age, there was an enormous improvement in the production of music. It continued to offer more capabilities to access the music of your choice. Technology research firms continued to accelerate easier access to a music library through the internet. Maybe in the next decade, music technology will enable us to keep millions of songs in the palm of our hands and in voice control commands.

The Untimely Death of The King Of Parody
The King of Parody
When you think of Leslie Nielsen, you would mostly think of parody movies. He was made famous by the classic comedy “Airplane”, as well as his role in the “Naked Gun” and its sequels. Ever since those movies, he was picked up to do the same kinds of parody films. These films would always deliver in cartoon violence, slapstick comedy, as well as poking fun in popular fads that run rampant at that time. In this sense his films weren’t just a parody of films, but they also made fun of mainstream culture to appeal to a wide audience. It works in that the people, who are into the fads at the time, will have a good time seeing their favorite fads being shown in a comedic light. Meantime, the people, who hate those fads, love the idea of poking fun on the mainstream. Nielsen had a gift with these movies as he was known for his lighthearted outlook on life on and off-screen. Nielsen would most often play a clueless character with many memorable one-liners that are still spewed by many people of all ages today. This especially rained perfectly true when he played the President of the United States in the film “Scary Movie 3″ and its sequel. He played a perfect rendition of how people viewed George Bush as a clueless President. It was comedic gold on all levels.
The Legend Lives On
Leslie Nielsen died of pneumonia on November 28, 2010. He reached the graceful age of 84. People Magazine stated that he was in the hospital for two weeks surrounded by his family and friends before he passed on. It is the kind of ambience many of us wish to have in our own death. People Magazine also stated that it just seemed like he fell asleep when he passed, a seemingly painless and respectable death for a legend such as himself. With Nielsen no longer able to poke fun at popular culture through movies, you might wonder who will step up and take the throne. The truth is that no one can ever replace a legend. Artists like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Leslie Nielsen can never be replaced. Their memories and their works will live on in their timeless arts, and the world will always remember the legends of entertainment.

The Legend Of Felix, The Cat, Lives On
The Beginning of Felix, the Cat
The cartoon character Felix, the Cat first appeared as ‘Master Tom’ in a Paramount Picture ‘short’ titled ‘Feline Follies’ in November 9, 1919. The short-length cartoon featuring Felix, the Cat as ‘Master Tom’ was a success that seven days later he starred again in ‘The Musical Mews’, another short-length silent cartoon film. Master Tom became ‘Felix, the Cat’ in December 1919, when the third film featuring him was released, which title was ‘The Adventures of Felix’. Otto Messmer, director and animator of the first film featuring ‘Felix, the Cat’, either gave the then and now famous cartoon character its name or John King of ‘Paramount Magazine’ did. The name ‘Felix’ is a combination of the latin words ‘felis’ for cat and ‘felix’ for lucky.
Felix, the Cat Is a Fat Cat
Felix, the Cat reached stardom in 1923. The first films featuring the feline cartoon character were distributed in 1919 to 1921; the short-length films, from 1922 to 1925. In 1924 Bill Nolan gave ‘Felix’ a makeover. He made him cuter, cuddlier, and rounder. The cuteness factor coupled with Otto Messmer’s animation skills shot Felix into fame. His images were emblazoned on stuffs, such as clocks and Yuletide knickknacks and bric-a-brac. His was the also the face printed on the very first Macy Day’s Parade Baloon in 1927. Felix’s name was used in songs popular in the 1920’s such as Paul Whiteman’s ‘Felix Kept Walking’. The Pat Sullivan Studios, which is ‘Felix, the Cat’s’ home-studio, earned annually $100,000 from toys featuring its feline cartoon character. A Chevrolet dealer first used him as a mascot. Charles Lindbergh, The New York Yankees, United States’ Navy’s Bombing Squadron Two, Logansport High school in Indiana, Japanese car manufacturer ‘Daihatsu’, and ‘The Queers’, a pop-punk band.
Felix, the Cat, Learns to Talk
Disney’s ‘Steamboat Willie’, the first cartoon film, which used sound, shook Pat Sullivan to adopt sound in ‘Felix, the Cat’ cartoons. The talking ‘Felix, the Cat’ debuted in 1929 in a ‘Film Daily’ advertisement. The first words he uttered were, ‘You ain’t heard nothin’ yet’!”. The addition of sound into ‘Felix, the Cat’ cartoon was not successful. This and Pat Sullivan’s wife’s death, which sent Felix’s creator down a spiral of alcoholism and depression, which led to his death, caused the feline character’s death in the animation world. The year 1935 once again caught a glimpse of ‘Felix’ with Van Beuren Studios taking over. After three cartoon films, ‘Felix, the Cat’ was seen no more again.
Felix, the Cat Wakes Up From a Long, Deep Sleep
Felix, the Cat’s short-length cartoon films emerged in the league of home movie and television market in 1954. Otto Messmer has retired, leaving his assistant Joe Oriolo to continue drawing and animating ‘Felix, the Cat’, whose new owner was Pat Sullivan’s nephew. Joe Oriolo and Sullivan’s nephew struck a deal, which allowed Oriolo to start a new series of ‘Felix, the Cat’ cartoon films. The new series aimed at children for its audience with ‘Felix’ and new characters voiced over by Jack Mercer. Joe Oriolo gained complete access and control over ‘Felix’ in 1970 until his death in 1985. His son, Don Oriolo has since taken over his father’s legacy, which he went to make into a film with European animators in the 1980’s. In 1995 ‘Felix, the Cat’ was featured in a series, titled ‘The Twisted Tales of Felix, the Cat’. Renewed interest burst in 1991, since John Canemaker’s ‘Felix:The Twisted Tale of the World’s Most Famous Cat’. Don Oriolo has brought a new ‘Felix, the Cat’ interest through fast-food meal toys and Nintendo video games featuring ‘Felix’. As of 2008 plans of developing a new ‘Felix, the Cat’ cartoon series has been underway, with fifty-two episodes being worked on. French studio TeamTO with Forecast Pictures introduce ‘The Felix The Cat Show’, which will air in 2010 or 2011 on Cartoon Network.

Roman Polanski’s ‘The Ghostwriter’ Is Best Picture in the European Film Awards
Roman Polanski’s ‘The Ghostwriter’ Is Best Picture in the European Film Awards
Roman Polanski’s ‘The Ghostwriter is Best Picture in the European Film Awards. The event was held in Tallinn, Estonia’s capital and largest city. The European film awarding body also recognized Ewan McGregor’s performance as the lead movie character, a British ghostwriter, for which he was awarded the ‘Best Actor’ prize. Robert Harris and Roman Polanski, who both wrote the film’s script, jointly won its ‘Best Screenplay’ award.
‘The Ghostwriter’ Movie Plot
‘The Ghostwriter’ movie was based loosely on real-life former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. In the movie, an unnamed British Ghostwriter played by Ewan McGregor accepts the task of writing the unfinished memoirs of British Prime Minister Adam Lang, whom actor Pierce Brosnan played. The day the lead character goes to work, which requires him to board a plane to an oceanfront house located in ‘Old Haven’, a fictional place, Adam Lang is accosted by former British Foreign Secretary and United States’ Envoy Richard Rycart, played by Robert Pugh, and accused of illegally handing terrorist suspects to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to be tortured, which could be a war crime. The accusation would have caused Adam Lang to face trial presided by the International Criminal Court, unless he remains in America or transfer to another country that does not recognize the International Criminal Court’s stature and laws. The scene attracts the attention of the media toward Lang’s home, where he lives with his wife Ruth and personal assistant/mistress Amelia, played by Olivia Williams and Kim Cattral, respectively. A local old man tells the writer how improbable it was for the ocean currents to have washed out the corpse of the ghostwriter, who died while writing the memoirs and disappeared in the ferry. The woman who witnessed flashlights on the beach area, where the ocean currents were supposed to have washed out the corpse, went into a coma. Following the Global Positioning System (GPS) in the dead writer’s car, he finds himself in the estate of Professor Paul Emmett, whom Tom Wilkinson played. He could feel the professor was nursing a secret. Upon leaving Emmett’s place, a car tails him, which he fortunately escapes. While surfing the Internet in a motel, he finds Emmett’s identity as a Central Intelligence Agency personnel. He learns from Rycart that the writer who died left clues in the unfinished book’s beginning, which they could not get a hold of. Receiving a call from Lang, the ghostwriter boards a plane with him. After leaving the plane, an anti-war protestor shoots Lang, who dies, and law enforcers shoots back at the assassin, killing him as well. The ghostwriter finishes the book. In the book launch party, he learns from Amelia about Ruth’s connection with Paul Emmett. He underlines each first word in each chapter of the book’s original manuscript, which was written by the dead writer. The words read, ‘Lang’s wife Ruth was recruited as a CIA agent by Professor Paul Emmett of Harvard University.’ Telling Ruth of his discovery, he turns away to leave the party. A car zooms towards him, as he crosses the street, insinuating his death (murder) from a car crash.
The 23rd European Film Awards
The 23rd European Film Awards was held last December 4, 2010. The 2300 award-giving body awarded the movie ‘The Ghostwriter’, its ‘Best Picture’ prize. Last year it gave the same recognition to Michael Haneke’s movie, ‘The White Ribbon’. Around forty films are nominated for the European Film Academy’s categories, of which the most important is ‘The Film of the Year’ award. The nominees are announced at the Seville European Film Festival in November. The nominees are voted upon by the EFA, which winners are announced in the European Film Awards held annually and exclusively for European films, actors, directors, and producers. It is usually hosted in Berlin, alternated by other cities in Europe every other year.

Newcomers Clubs Welcome You and Provide Instant New Friends
Moving to a new town can be very stressful. Moving in itself is considered to be one of the top three stressful situations you will experience besides death and divorce. You can make your move much more fun by finding a Newcomers Club near you. It isn’t even required for you to be a very new member of a town or city to join them. The members of the Newcomers clubs make you feel welcome and a part of their club no matter how long you have lived there.
Newcomer club opportunities
Newcomer clubs are designed to help new members of a locale have the opportunity to meet other people, participate in fun events they have scheduled all year and help you find other resources you might need after your move. I was invited to join one after I had lived in a new town for 3 years. I wished I had known about it much sooner. It felt like I had found my family and friends once I started participating in some of the fun side groups they had created.
Each group is different and it depends on how large the club is as to what they offer. We had choices of a wine tasting group, hikers group, several quilting groups, even more book groups, bridge groups, gourmet cooking group, theater groups, crafting groups and more. It was so comfortable to attend these different activities and have time to get to know the wonderful ladies and be treated as if I had been their friend forever.
Newcomer clubs have websites
Most Newcomers Clubs have a website. You can also check the local papers for information. One new town I moved to had advertised their activities in the paper to make sure new folks could find them. Many members have been a part of the club for over 20 years. They are the ones that make sure there is someone there to make new residents feel like they just came home.
Does Modern Music Affect Your Thinking or Attitude?
Is there reason to be concerned with the music we choose to listen to? This question and others like it have many people wondering. Imagine being invited by a person you are just getting to know to his house for some games and dinner and while there you are shocked by different things you observe your host doing. You find out that he likes disgusting vulgar things and his language is as bad, he talks of suicide and has demonic attitudes and beliefs. Now, you may wonder do I really want to be his friend and stay here? Likely you would respond with “No.”
Many Forms of Music to Select From
Sadly, the scenario above is what we as listeners have allowed with the choice of music we have exposed ourselves and children too. By listening to the lyrics we can unknowingly adopt the behavior and attitude it promotes. It is not just found in rap or heavy metal either. Caution still needs to be taken and a person needs to be selective with their music choices. There are obvious forms of music that need no second guesses as to what is in it. Many labels now have a warning on them that will tell you that there is explicit content in them. Such things as violence, suicides and liberal sex are featured and the beat can even have an affect on how you act.
Music’s Effect on Your Attitude
It is good to consider if music choices affect you or your attitude. What do you expose yourselves to at concerts and are they healthy? If you care about the food you eat for your health then you would want to do the same with the music you choose to entertain that can be unwholesome and that can affect your mental health as well. an to get the tickets when they first come available.
Balance is needed with all choices of music not just the obvious “garbage” but also in ones that can make you feel, sad, lonely or depressed. These feelings can play on our emotions and can even cause suicidal thoughts as well. Music is a way to express ourselves. It can lift the spirit but we need to make sure that the music we expose ourselves to brings out the positive feelings and not the negative emotions. Music can move us and it has the ability to impact our thoughts good or bad.
Britney On Glee Created Another Record and Another Controversy
Some weeks ago, Ryan Seacrest confirmed on Twitter, Britney Spear’s appearance on “Glee”, about which he had spoken to Ryan Murphy, co-creator of “Glee”. The much-awaited episode on Britney aired last September 28 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox, creating another top rating of 13.3 million viewers. This tribute episode to the “Princess of Pop” featured her hit singles, “… Baby, One More Time”,“Toxic”, “I’m A Slave For You”, and a 30-second cameo of Britney herself.
BRITNEY AND BRITTANY CONTROVERSY
Despite the success of the program, a group of parents, called Parents Television Council (PTC), tagged it as “Worst Show of the Week”. Parents criticized Britney’s credibility as a good role model, referring to her public meltdowns, rehabilitation, and parenting skills, further accusing Britney of promoting the use of narcotics. Parents Television Council has not only announced their disapproval of Britney’s appearance but also of Britanny and Santana’s intimate relationship, citing “Me Against The Music” video of Britney and Madonna having “plenty of girl to girl bumping and grinding.”
According to gossiponthis.com, the PTC official statement says: “Glee’ earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers. A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation and school-sanctioned burlesque.” PTC was not alone in its protest against the Glee Tribute to Britney content. UK’s Daily Mail branded the episode as “X-rated”, for featuring lesbian love scene between cheerleaders Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera).
AGAINST ALL ODDS, BRITNEY IS STILL ON TOP
Britney appeared unperturbed by the negative reaction the Glee episode on her garnered. She was spotted in Los Angeles, California, spending another day, shopping. She has, perhaps, learned to embrace the costs of popularity, which include controversies and less privacy. No matter how many times she gets into rehabilitation and performs antics, to some of the public’s dismay, her charm does not seem to peter out at all. Admit it or not, her entertaining, record-busting skills wins out.
