Are Chat Rooms Dangerous?

One of the things to remember is that you do not really know who you are conversing with on the other end.  Someone may be a predator with sexual intentions and you would not even know it.  You may even be tempted for your own reasons to deceive someone on the other end such as maybe your age.  In time you form a friendship you have a lot of things in common with.  Truth is it is all with what you have been lead to believe via conversations in chat rooms.  You may be surprised at who you may actually be conversing with.

Chat Rooms are Deceiving

The time you spend in Chat rooms may at first seem innocent but before you are even aware of it, you may find that many other important things in your life have taken a back burner.  Your homework may suffer and even the time you normally would have spent with family and friends and begin to isolate your time to those in the chat rooms.

Many find it easier to chat with strangers than with the people they know.  This is turn makes it easy to form a friendship where you can discuss things that other close to you find it hard to tell you their real feeling on certain matters.  Remember you could be talking to a rapist or a murderer on the other end they could pose as anyone.  There are many way to post pictures even of  someone else than who you are actually chatting with.

Never Give Personal Information in Chat Rooms

The question to ask is: Do I really know who I am sharing my feelings with?  Do they really care about what happens to you?  Family members and close friends know who you really are and are genuinely concerned with your welfare.  It is extremely important to never disclose personal information such as  giving your name, address or phone number to people that you talk to in chat rooms. You should never agree to meet with someone you have met online as it is just too dangerous and risky to do so.  If you have received a threat make sure to talk about it with your parents or teacher and if needed even to the police.

Movie Ratings: Do They Matter or Make a Difference?

By gailf548 on flickr.com

Most people can agree that many decades ago content viewed on the movie screens was more restrictive than it is today.  Back in 1930 the United States put a code of limitations of what was allowed to be shown on them.

Language, Violence and Sex Gone Too Far

The language we hear today was not spoken and you would never see a rape or sex scene.  Back then couples were shown together as married people who had their clothes on under the covers. A far cry from what we see today.  Concerning violence you would not have seen the weapon let alone the outcome of a wound the weapon inflicted.  This is a far difference from what we are now accustomed to where there is nothing left to the imagination and are very explicit scenes.

Ratings Tell Us Little

Nowadays, we have to be very careful of what we allow our children to watch even on T.V. let alone the ones that are playing in the theaters.  Even the ratings do little to tell us what to expect.  One of the reasons for this is what might be considered PG to one person may not to another.  What one critic deems appropriate, may not be, to us as parents.  Some feel that it is acceptable for certain age groups and so rate it as such without any thought to what it is really promoting to our children.

How To Protect Our Families

Many of the things we can do, to be informed about what movies our children can watch, can take a lot of effort. It can be challenging for us because ratings do not help us much. It could be a good practice to wait until you hear what others say or read what it is about.  Close friends that you trust can let you know what kind of things were in it and you can make a decision from that too.  Another way is to go with our children instead of letting them go alone with their friends.  It is one way to find out what your child thought of the movie and find others that would make good choices that they would enjoy seeing. Waiting until the movie comes out on DVD may be an option as well which can save you from having to get a low rate personal loan just to pay for expensive theater tickets.

If Ratings Matter or Make a Difference Depends On Us

What ratings really boil down to is just a vague idea of what to expect when you watch the movie.  A warning of a sorts.  Still, no matter what the ratings there could still be questionable content that we might not want to instill in our children. Also, the media may not think it to be bad material and may consider it acceptable for the age group stated.  They may have rated them according to their own standards not ours. Profit incentives may play a larger role than is currently understood. So the question on whether they matter or make a difference relies on us taking the responsibility to help make wise choices when it comes to our movie choices and entertainment.
